Welcome to the month of September!
I'm delighted to have finally met each of my new classes at Nancy Gomes. We've hit the ground running by starting the new year off with a bang- or should a say a dance step!
It is with great excitement that I announce on Tuesday, September 24th, from 6:00-7:30pm, Nancy Gomes will be holding its first ever Barnyard Dance!
Date: Tuesday, September 24th
Where: Nancy Gomes Elementary School (on the back playground)
Cost: $0.50 suggested donation per person -cost of admission goes towards the purchase of materials for the music room
I've been working on putting together the Barnyard Dance as an opportunity for the students to share the dancing skills they learn in music class both with their peers and families. For many cultures, community dances are a special time in which everyone- both young and old- come together to partake in an activity as a whole. Dances are passed down from generation to generation and are often cherished as a living thread that ties everyone together.
I feel that Nancy Gomes' warm and welcoming community is a perfect place to start a community activity such as a Barnyard Dance and I hope that you join us in our efforts!
What you can do to help: First off, mark your calendars and be sure to attend! This is a school-wide event in which each grade level has been working on a special set of dances. Throughout the evening, I will call each grade level to the dance floor to show off their dances both to the other students and their families. In between the grade level dances, we will also have dances in which everyone can come out and dance (don't worry about knowing the right moves, I'll teach you as we go!).
*For parents with children in grades K-3: One of the dances in which your child is learning has been marked as a "parent dance." This means that the children will be encouraged to ask their parents to come out and do the dance with them! I encourage you to take this opportunity to be involved in your child's music education and come out and dance :) Again, I will go over the moves before we do the dance but if you want a head start, ask your child to show you the dance at home!
Looking to Volunteer?: I am always in need of a few extra hands! Please let me know if you would like to volunteer with this event and I will personally contact you to go over the details.
As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!
